Relationships are established between abiotic features of the physical system and species of plants and animals. This research is being carried out in partnership with the Flemish Research Institute for Nature and Forest (INBO). Shallow areas and intertidal areas with relatively low dynamics are habitats of great ecological value. Flanders Hydraulics examines in representative case study areas in the Western Scheldt and in the Sea Scheldt how the tidal currents in shallow areas, soil types and other flow characteristics can be decisive for the ecological values in these habitats.
